The idea of Dak_ti craft came about in 2010 when the team travelled to different craft clusters across Meghalaya to conduct design workshops with the local artisans. The team then worked independently in mapping the different crafts and identifying artisans and craftsmen to work with materials like clay, bamboo, cane, pineapple fibre and other resources available locally.
The idea of Dak_ti craft came about in 2010 when we travelled to different craft clusters across Meghalaya to conduct design workshops with the local artisans. The abundant skill and natural raw-material in the state posed a pressing opportunity- to create handcrafted products using natural materials by sustainable means. Thus we worked independently in mapping the different crafts and identifying artisans and craftsmen to work with materials like clay, bamboo, cane, pineapple fibre and other resources available locally.
Since 2012 we have exhibited our products and represented these crafts and artisans from Meghalaya across the country. By 2014 the team catered to stores directly with an exclusive range of products under the label Dak_ti i. The products are available in select stores in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and Goa. In 2015 the team travelled these cities with their event: Earthy a Fair – Food, Music, Arts and Crafts from Meghalaya creating a platform for local designers, musicians, chefs, artisans to connect with the world outside.
The business has received many awards and accolades along the way, such as :
• National Entrepreneurship Award 2019 by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, GOI
• Telegraph North East Excellence Award 2017 for contribution in Craft and Music.
• The Sparrow Award 2016 by WIPRO & Nature Forever Society
